How to Pick Up Solid Color of Necktie to Match Your Shirts and Suits

Neck tie is the most versatile accessory in any man's wardrobe. It is important to choose right color to match your whole dressing. Most solid color ties can be worn with several different dress shirts and suits. Solid color ties don't have to be plain, jacquard ties have a texture woven into the cloth giving pattern to the single color. While the top selling ties are diagonal stripes, a single color tie can have more impact when properly worn.

The colors of neck ties should be chosen to harmonize with the existing wardrobe. Men who wear a lot of gray, blue and black should consider a red neck tie. Red looks amazing against a snowy white shirt with a black, navy or charcoal gray suit. Red is a power color and this look expresses power. Red also can be paired with a gray, black or navy shirt.

Black is also a power color, but too much black can be funereal. Black neckties pair well with white, gray, light blue, pink or red shirts. Against a white shirt, a black tie can seem too formal unless the suit it is worn with has a pattern, like glen plaid or herringbone.

Brown neckties may be the most versatile of all. Brown goes well with light blue, green, pink, peach, orange, yellow, tan and ivory. It is not a good choice with navy, gray or black. Brown ties are at their best with suits that are tweed or have a stripe or pattern. Brown ties are more casual than red or black. Brown is not a power color.

Pink neck ties are often overlooked. Pink is versatile and elegant. A pink necktie comes with a pale gray shirt and charcoal suit. A silver tie clip or pin and cufflinks complete this cool elegant ensemble. Most shades of pink look well with silver, black, light blue, navy and white. Peachy pinks also look nice with browns.

There are many shades of green and matching a green tie can be tricky. Greens are classified as warm, greens with more yellow tones, and cool, greens with blue tones. Warm greens usually look good with browns and yellows. Cool greens look best with black and navy. Gray greens, like sage look good with gray and charcoal. Generally the best shirt for a green tie is white or ivory.

Blue ties, depending on the shade look good with most colors except green. Matching blues and greens is an art form. Dark blues, like navy, look best on pastel shirts since white gives them an extremely formal appearance. Bright blues like turquoise look best on white shirts with dark suits. Pale blues work with almost any color including brown, gray, silver, navy and black. Pale blue can be worn on a dark shirt for impact.

Purple is the color of royalty. It looks best on a white or light gray shirt with a dark suit. Purple, like green, can be a difficult color to match. Most men who chose purple neck ties have an adventurous sense of fashion.

Solid color neck ties are the best choice for shirts that have a pattern or stripe. Too much pattern is distracting to the eye, so striped or patterned ties should not be worn with patterned shirts.

Single color neck ties are a good choice for many reasons. They can be worn with many different shirts and suits to create different looks. Solid colors do not distract the eye, but cause it to travel up to the face of the wearer. The proper solid color tie can be a statement of power and confidence.
